Everything about the staid, village-green stereotype of cricket is turned on its head in this great photo. The image, however, is headturning for other, more altruistic reasons. The Maasai Warriors are hoping to use cricket to affect change in their community, to challenge ancient beliefs and stigma, hoping to educate and campaign against Female Genital Mutilation, and raise awareness of AIDS. The Maasai Cricket Warriors are made up of players from the Maasai tribe; the team play exhibition matches to highlight issues in rural communities. The team are hoping to raise funds to play in the Last Man Standing tournament at Lord’s.
